Course Overview
Like just about everything else in St Andrews the word ‘new’ is something of a misnomer. There is nothing at all ‘new’ about the New Course.
It was laid out by Old Tom Morris in 1895 and originally intended as relief course for the Old which was by then struggling to keep pace with demand.
Course Details
It runs alongside the Old Course and were it not for its close proximity to the most famous course in the world the New Course would warrant a much bigger international reputation than it already owns.
Tight fairways lined by thick gorse and whin, subtle greens and four of the most testing par three holes in golf are its hallmarks.
This is a classic links course which uses the natural features of the land to create a first class golfing challenge.
The golf course has the traditional out and back layout with the 18th green just to the right of the first tee.
It also has, in true St Andrews tradition, shared fairways and a double green at the 3rd and 15th holes.
