Course Overview
Biarritz Le Phare Golf Course was laid out more then 100 years ago by Willie Dunn, this course has seen so much change that there is virtually nothing left of the original links.
However since losing its holes by the sea, it has become a really pretty parkland course, which is very short but by no means easy.
Course Details
With wind coming from the nearby Atlantic, Biarritz can certainly show its teeth and youll need to have all the shots of a links player to muster a good score
The greens can be hard, fast and devilishly tricky, and even short iron approach shots can prove to be a formidable ordeal.
The fairways are separated by thin rows of trees and bushes, so if you are going to stray left or right, go the whole way to avoid being stuck in the middle ground. 'Le Phare' could be considered a little antiquated, but it bears the irreplaceable tradition of the origins of golf in the Basque country, and can be played by golfers of all levels.
Since the course is sometimes unplayable after heavy rain, the club has recently carried out some welcome drainage work, resulting in this course hosting the prestigious Biarritz Trophy and a regular venue on the European Ladies Tour.
